Driver-Mentor Program wins national road safety award
Exciting news! Our Driver-Mentor Program is now award winning!
We are proud to have taken the title Indigenous Programs Award 2025 at the Australian Road Safety Awards in Canberra.
Our free program helps young mob build up their 120 supervised driving hours, getting them on the road to independence and breaking down barriers to employment.
Since its launch in late 2022, the program has helped almost 100 young people across 16 locations in the Riverina Murray region to achieve their P plates. A further 212 learner drivers are currently building up their hours.
Driver-mentors are First Nations people and allies from the communities supported by On-Country Pathways through funding from the Australian Government’s Indigenous Skills and Employment Program (ISEP) and the Strong and Resilient Communities (SARC) program.
The program is also made possible thanks to generous support from donors and community partners including the Gibson Foundation, CVGT Employment Community Grants, and Lowes Petroleum Service.
Thanks to Supercheap Auto for sponsoring the award, presented by Russell White, Australian Road Safety Foundation Founder and Chair and Supercar Champion and ARSF ambassador Craig Lowndes.
And to the awesome Helen Haines MP who stopped by the event at Parliament House, thanks for always supporting us!
