Announcing our first Education and Training Pathways Partner

Wodonga-based Community Career Connections is On-Country Pathways’ (OCP) first Education and Training Pathways Partner.

Community Career Connections is a collaboration between Mungabareena Aboriginal Corporation and Wodonga TAFE. The organisation will refer young Indigenous people to OCP who have an interest in commercial construction and are eligible to join one of our four programs.

OCP partners with local businesses to offer work experience, traineeships, work placement and cadetships to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth in the Riverina region.

Bronwyn Nolan, Employment Relationship Coordinator, Community Career Connections, said: “On-Country Pathways provides great employment and mentoring opportunities for some of our clients that may be seeking a construction related job.”

“Our partnership with them is reciprocal and has the potential to provide smooth transitions into a range of entry level job roles across many sectors for local First Nations youth. We look forward to working closely with Darren and Jebb to further assist community members gain long term sustainable employment,” she added.

On-Country Pathways Program Manager, Darren Moffitt, said: “Our two organisations are a great fit. Together we will help our Koorie community connect with employment and training opportunities in commercial construction and related trades.”

“We will be sending OCP program participants to Community Career Connections to obtain their construction induction card or white card as it’s known, the mandatory safety training for working in the construction industry,” he added.

Mr Moffitt said OCP is keen to hear from more Riverina employers who can offer placements to young Indigenous people in the commercial construction industry and related trades. OCP’s first Employment Pathways Partner to sign up is Wodonga-based TVN On-Country which expects to have its first program participant soon.
